Well, everyone should go green nowadays, but the problem is many people think that living in an environmentally responsible manner is something costly and unwise from a purely financial point of view. There is no bigger misconception out there than that green lifestyle is reserved only for the rich. Check out the following suggestions for cheap eco friendly lifestyle:
- Do not heat a house that is empty. No matter whether we are talking about heating during the day when everyone is at work or school, or for prolonged periods of time, it is unwise, because it is not environmentally responsible, and because it would have an effect on your utilities bill that you would like.
- Turn off your computer after you are finished using it. The thing is even when the laptop/PC goes to sleep, it continues to suck energy. By turning it off you will reduce your electricity bill and at the same time reduce waste of energy and resources for its production, which is one of the greatest treads to the environmental balance as of today.
- Optimize your junk removal at home by regularly thinking about ways in which to reduce the junk produced at your home. For example, you can start composting organic waste materials, or come up with creating ways in which to use old clothes, furniture etc. If you cannot, remember – one man’s junk is another man’s treasure, so you can start selling some of the unnecessary items you have at home online – in this way you will even be able to earn a little money.
- If public transportation is no good for you when it comes to your daily commute to work, you should consider carpooling. It is not a novel idea – the practice has been around in the United States in Britain, as well as other corners of the world for over a decade, and it is a great way to both travel comfortably and save yourself some money.
- Batteries are one of the most frequently produced items of junk by households. Well, the problem is that they are also a real pain to dispose of and recycle, so it might be a good idea to think about going for rechargeable batteries on a permanent basis. It might be a bit more expensive in the beginning, but there is no need to tell you that in the long run it will save you a bit of cash.
- You can always support green businesses. Avoid the fashionable green food chain stores, which tend to be unnecessary expensive. But there is nothing wrong with doing your weekly grocery shopping at the local farmers’ market. Local farmers will sell you good food on a good price, and it will be greener, healthier and cheaper than anything you are able to buy from the supermarket.
- Forget about plastic bags. A linen one is more durable, eco-friendly and you will not be charged for every bag that you take from the store as well, so it will even save you money.
