If you’re renovating or fixing up your house, you will probably end up with all kinds of waste. The question is: how can you responsibly dispose of old materials and other waste? Well, there are few smart and efficient ways to remove it without hassle and without breaking the bank. Check out the following tips.

Separate reusable materials and items

Remember the old saying – your trash may be someone’s treasure? If you’re having a major home makeover, you will probably replace appliances, furniture, cabinets, doors, windows and other. So, you will end up with old items and you have to get rid of them somehow. Well, you can donate them to a drop-off centre or other centres that will be happy to take them. Those items can be reused or recycled. Materials that can be recycled are:

  • Paper and cardboard
  • wood
  • Plastic
  • Scrap metal
  • Concrete

Just make sure to keep materials in good condition during your renovation project. Also, contact a donation centre to find out what they can and cannot accept.

Items that cannot be reused

Some renovation waste cannot be reused or donated. There are two ways to handle this situation:

  • You can get this renovation waste to a landfill by yourself with your truck or trailer if you have one. However, it is advised that you first separate materials as there are special stations for different materials. But before you start with the separation process, contact your local landfill to learn more about how to successfully remove this kind of waste. If it takes too much time, effort and gas to transport construction waste for recycling, look for another solution.
  • You can use local garbage collection service and have them pick up the waste. You have to provide them with details, such as your address, types of items, their size and other. They won’t charge a lot for this additional service.

Renting a dumpster

Here is another savvy way to keep your renovation waste under control. Rent a roll-off dumpster. Their size can go up to 40 cubic yards, making them ideal for big renovation projects. You just have to have enough space to place it in your backyard. If you don’t, then you will probably have to put it on the side of the road. But, you might need a permit for this so know all information and restrictions beforehand so that you don’t end up paying waste disposal fines. After you fill it up, let the company know so that they can come and take it away.

Hire a waste removal company

In addition to previously mentioned solutions, you can dispose of your construction waste responsibly, including plasterboard, by opting for top-class plasterboard collection services in London. They will ensure to properly dispose of all kinds of waste and recycle as much of it as possible, regardless of the size and the volume of your project. The cost of this service is not high considering the time, effort and safety issues that might occur while handling such waste.
